"The design evolves from the inside out—the offsets and projections McDonald used to create the interior spatial arrangements in turn define the exterior form of the house."

John Randal McDonald designed Riverhome in 1952 for Richard Christensen, a local executive, his wife Ada and their family. The house was constructed in 1954 on a sloping site overlooking a small seasonal creek. It has had several subsequent owners, including a former CEO of Johnson Wax (now SC Johnson), and is now owned by an executive with Johnson Outdoors Inc. The home is now environmentally sensitive, with natural materials, no VOC paints, finished concrete and plyboo. No HVAC and easy to keep clean; all natural carpet on the lower level.
